The Sonnax SmartShell is the first and only upgrade that protects the planetary assembly and also provides a reinforced shell.
- The SmartShell avoids the weight found in traditional, heavy-duty aftermarket shells.
- The shell is slightly thicker than Original Equipment.
- The hub area is reinforced with an electron-beam welded collar and undergoes a final machining process for precision alignment.
- The shell splines and lugs are heat-treated.
- By replacing the black plastic washer with a thrust bearing and controlling the height of the custom roller clutch race, the SmartShell reroutes thrust loads away from the captured planet bearing and sun gear. The rerouted endplay/thrust loads pass through the new thrust bearing and custom roller clutch race directly to the rear planet carrier, completely bypassing the vulnerable captured planet bearing.
